Choose the Roger Sherman Inn when an in-town room is available. Stamford is the practical fallback for hotel choice; Greenwich and Norwalk make more sense when amenities, rates, or a wider Fairfield County trip matter more than proximity.

Downtown Stamford has the broadest hotel choice and frequent rail service. The Lloyd is roughly a 15-to-20-minute drive from central New Canaan before traffic and parking, or about a 20-minute branch-line train ride between stations. Grace Farms and Waveny Park still require a car or arranged ride.
Greenwich adds full-service properties such as the Hyatt Regency, but it sits west of Stamford and adds another road leg to every New Canaan reservation. Choose it for hotel amenities or a wider lower-Fairfield-County trip, not for proximity to Elm Street.
Norwalk can offer lower live rates and straightforward regional highway access. It remains a driving choice for Elm Street, the Glass House shuttle, and Grace Farms, so compare the actual weekend rate with the extra road time before booking.
